How it started

Wantaim PNG is a charity targeting remote rural communities in Manus province in PNG, partnering with communities to help mobilise local engagement and help them thrive.

The Rotary club of Manly has been a supporter from the start.

An initial trial program was led by member Lynne Shori to provide the first composting toilets to Rambustso Is.

The project was so successful it is being expanded to cover many islands in the area before possible expansion to PNG mainland with possible support from the PNG government and DFAT.

Our continued support

In 2020, the Rotary Club of Manly helped with Wantaim PNG's Manus COVID-Soap Initiative.

Soap deliveries were made to every single household in Manus.

The soap supports more frequent hand washing as a preventative measure against the COVID virus by the largely subsistence population of 72,000+ people who largely regard soap as a luxury purchase.

The Australian Government's assistance with freight was combined with funding from Wantaim PNG and 9 Rotary Clubs (PNG, NSW and Qld) to make this possible.
